How Anchor Point Hub Began
It started at a kitchen table in Herriman.
Katrina shared the idea with her daughter and a German exchange student named Lillith who had spent a year living with the Mortensen family. Lillith grew up surrounded by small villages in Germany where community came naturally youth clubs, local traditions, festivals where everyone was welcome. She recognized immediately what Katrina was describing because she had lived it. So did Katrina’s daughter. The three of them sat together and the idea that would become Anchor Point Hub took its first breath.
When Katrina brought the idea to Julee it might have sounded ambitious. Others might have said it could not be done. Julee said let’s go for it and started helping build it. That response said everything about who Julee is and what this partnership is built on.
The more Katrina and Julee talked to people about what they were building the more validation they got. This was something the community genuinely needed. People had been waiting for it without knowing what to call it.
Why We Are Building This
The Southwest Valley is one of the fastest-growing communities in America. Tens of thousands of families have arrived, and there is still nowhere to simply belong.
We watched teenagers sit in parking lots because there was nowhere else to go. We watched homeschool families drive from rental space to rental space, teaching their kids out of a car trunk between locations, with no real home base to call their own. We watched neighbors who had lived next to each other for years and never learned each other's names. We watched adults rush past each other every day without ever slowing down long enough to actually meet, no real place to make a new friend, learn a new skill, or just sit somewhere that wasn't a chain restaurant.
We watched families choosing between driving twenty minutes for fresh, local food or settling for whatever the nearest big-box store had that week. We watched small local makers and farmers with nowhere nearby to actually sell what they'd built.
We could not stop seeing what was missing. So we decided to build it.
Anchor Point Hub is not a rec center. Not a mall. Not a YMCA. It is a village, a European-style village community gathering place designed on purpose so that community can happen on purpose, for every age, not just one.
A teen hub where kids finally have somewhere to belong. A learning center where homeschool families have a real home, and where any adult can walk in and learn a new skill or teach one they already have. A greenhouse and farm market where you can actually shop local. An event hall for the milestones that bring generations together. A retail street built for small, local businesses, not another chain.
A place where you are not a customer. You are a neighbor.
Who We Are
Katrina and Julee carry this vision together. Every design decision, every building, every program, and every relationship grew from two women who saw something missing in their community and refused to look away. Katrina brought the original idea shaped by her 5 years as a homeschooling mom, her European heritage, and her daily life as a crossing guard watching a community grow without a gathering place. Julee brought the belief that it could actually be done and then rolled up her sleeves and helped build it. Neither one leads alone. One starts the sentence and the other finishes it. That is how Anchor Point Hub was built and that is how it will open.
Katrina Mortensen

Katrina is a mom of seven, a homeschooling mother, and a local crossing guard in Herriman, Utah. Her German heritage and years of travel through Europe gave her a firsthand look at a slower pace of life, where communities connected naturally simply because everything was close enough to walk or bike to. In Europe, the places themselves seemed to invite you to stop, to stay a while, to actually see the people around you. That feeling, more than anything, is what she wanted to bring home and build into Anchor Point Hub.
That experience became the foundation for Anchor Point Hub. Katrina wanted to build a village for her own children to grow up in, a place where they could connect with others, find themselves through learning and creating, and have a community to truly belong to. Once she recognized the need she knew it was not just her family who could benefit. It was something the whole community was missing. Rather than just wishing that kind of place existed, she decided to build it herself.
Bringing that vision to life meant relying on skills she'd built for twenty years as a stay-at-home mom, managing schedules, budgets, and the daily logistics of a large household. That work does not come with a title but it is real project management experience: coordinating people, solving problems on the fly, and making a limited budget stretch to cover what actually matters. She has applied those same skills to Anchor Point Hub.
She leads Anchor Point Hub’s vision, partnerships, and community relationships, working to turn a mother’s idea into a real place the Southwest Valley can call home.
Julee Ross
Co-Founder & COO, R&M Roots Management LLC
Julee is a mother of five, co-owner of Ross Roofing alongside her husband, and former office manager for The Blindman. With children in both charter and public schools, she has seen firsthand the growing need for more flexible, personalized education options, and she's passionate about making sure kids have access to meaningful learning experiences and supportive environments where they can connect, create, and thrive, especially during the teenage years.
When Katrina brought her the vision for Anchor Point Hub, Julee did not hesitate. She immediately saw the potential to make a real impact, and she brought straight talk, business knowledge, and a clear understanding of grants, women-owned startup funding, and the operational structure needed to build something real. She has pushed Katrina to step out of her comfort zone more times than either of them can count, because Julee believes that instead of complaining or wishing for something to be different, you step out of your comfort zone and do it.
Julee carries the operations of Anchor Point Hub, turning Katrina's vision into structure, strategy, and forward motion. She is direct, honest, and has been all-in from the moment she heard the idea.
